Google +

I've been hearing a lot about Google + lately.  Is this worth signing up for?  What are the benefits?  I've heard that you can run games online using G+.  I've heard it's a good social networking place (like Facebook) for gamers.

Any thoughts from people out there that are using it?

I'm probably already way behind the curve on this topic.  But better late than never.

  1. I just played my first game on a G+ hangout last night, and it was a blast!

  2. Thanks for asking this, I've been wondering the same things. So your not alone in not knowing. : )

  3. George, G+ has ALOT of gamers on it. Much more streamlined then the bloated Facebook.

To put it another way, I have 175 followers on my blog, 486 on G+ (and i'd been ignoring G+ even tho I had an account there)

I'm supposed to be playing in my first G+ Hangout gaming session tonight.

  4. oh, and you can mirror your blogger posts to G+ - i tend to have two threads going on for every post ;)

  5. Great for discussions. Most of our fellow bloggers are on it.

  6. David, that's the kind of thing I wanted to hear. Nice.

BB - I'm sure there are many more who don't know about it, so we can all learn together. :)

Erik - wow, I had no idea it was that widely attended/checked out. Good luck with your game!

Simon - OK, I think I will do it. I'm sold.

So when I sign up, it asks for my full name for a public profile. Is this optional? What if I want to use my blog name instead?

  7. Another question - if I have a small group (say, 3 of us total) and we wanted to hang out together at one table but patch into a Google + game to be part of an online campaign I assume we would each need our own PC at the table. Is this correct?

  10. OK, now I'm getting the hang of it. I created a new circle, called "Underworld Cleaning Service." I have now added a plethora (4) of friends and associates. :)

  12. I like this whole setup. So let's say I don't want my "Family" circle to see my "Underworld Cleaning Service" comments. I just tailor my comments to a particular group and the other group doesn't see them. Is that right?

  13. correct... and u can put folks into more then one circle too

  14. Right. I have RL gamer friends in both my "Friends" and "Gamers" circle.

G+ hangouts as also added a "screenshare" button. this allows one to use mapping programs and the like and show it to the whole group. You also do not have to have a webcam; you can go audio only. There is also a text box which my group uses to throw links out or aside comments (like all gamers do!) that would disrupt the narrative, if audible.

  15. Yeah, the discussion is quite lively on G+. You are now in my RPG circle. :-)

I have yet to try a G+ hangouts game, but I keep meaning to.

  18. For those bloogers who post things on G+, do you generally check the box to "Notify" members of your circle(s)?

  19. Did I really just write "bloogers?"
