May Slow Down a Wee Bit..

I find blogging to be a lot of fun, but I may slow it down just a bit.  I've been averaging about 1.3 posts per day since the blog's inception.  This is actually a pretty frequent rate of posting.  It's been a lot of fun, but there are some other fun hobby-related things I want to catch up on, such as:
  • Catching up on my reading (Lovecraft, Arthurian stuff, John Carter, etc)
  • Spending some serious time on setting up a new campaign
I'm certainly not going away, but I may cut back to 3-4 posts a week to free up some time.

  1. I think that's the right approach. I used to do 6 posts a week, but I've backed down to 5--and I don't feel bad if I miss the occasional day there.

  2. Yeah, blogging can be very time consuming, and it often comes at the expense of other activities. I think it is natural to have a high rate of posting during a blog's early months - you have so much you want to say, but it is natural for that to taper off after a while as you settle into a comfortable equilibrium.

    1. Sean - well said. I still have a lot that I want to say, but I'm finding that blogging is just squeezing my free time too much. Lately it's been 80% blogging and 20% gaming. And I'd like it to be about 50/50.

  3. Personally, my system is that if I have something to say I will post it, but no more than one content post per day. Every once in a while there will be a second "link" type post if I see something that I think is worth sharing (like the pointer to the Dungeon Crawl zine yesterday). I have no schedule or goal other than that, which helps keep it feeling fun and not like an obligation.

Sometimes I feel like I don't really know what I think about something until I write about it, and don't really understand something until I explain it to someone else. A blog is a great tool for satisfying those needs.

  4. Brendan - spot on. Blogging for me has really been about self-discovery. By really diving deep into things I'd only skimmed in the past, I'm learning more about what I like about RPG's and what I don't like. Hell, RPGs are a big part of my life so it's fun to learn more about them and formulate my thoughts.

  5. Any Lovecraftian stories in particular you're looking to experience?

Hope you don't mind too much, considering the off-topic nature of it all, but I've tagged you and your blog for an event I'm participating in. Fairly harmless, and it's quite alright if you choose not to join in. Below's just the run-down, and my part is, of course, on my blog.

    The Rules Are:
    1. You must post the rules.
    2. Post eleven fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
    3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create eleven new questions to ask the people you've tagged.
    4. Tag eleven bloggers, however, you can break the rules and tag fewer people if you want. Make sure you hyperlink their names/blogs.
    5. Let them know you've tagged them!
    6. Have fun!

Looking forward to your response, either way.

    Cheers!
