Poll: Goth Girl - Should it Go?

As you may have noticed, I posted a pic of a sexy goth girl yesterday.  I received some positive comments, but I received one rather scathing comment.

Well, folks - I really do want to put out a blog that people like to read.  Perhaps many people are offended by me showing a pretty girl in an alluring pose but were reluctant to speak up.

Would you mind taking a couple seconds to answer the anonymous survey at the right side of my blog page.

If enough readers don't like this series, I'll discontinue it.  Simple as that.  I'm not in the business of offending people.

George

  1. anyone offended offends me.

so that puts you in a double bind, I suppose

  2. Well, maybe you can post pictures of sexy goth guys as well. I guess I'm more sympathetic to complaints along the lines of "I'd like you to give me some eye-candy too" than "I don't enjoy this, so nobody else should either."

  3. Zak - thanks man. Well said.

Joshua - who would you define as a sexy goth guy? Perhaps a young Robert Smith from the Cure before he got so big.

    1. Unfortunately, I'm terrible at judging sexiness of guys... I consult my wife about matters like that.

  4. Hi,
@George: this is YOUR blog, don't let anybody tell what you should post here.
Also: while Smith was popular with my female friends, I think that Peter Murphy (the singer of bauhaus) was sexier.

  5. I voted, it doesn't affect my enjoyment. I'm not into goth girl pics, and if I was I could find them elsewhere. But that's not the point.

Write the blog you want to write, post the stuff you want to post, and the people who enjoy it will read it. If you write your blog censoring out stuff you think others might not enjoy, are you really going to enjoy it? You're the most important audience member.

  6. I also voted for "it doesn't affect my enjoyment". In the end, who cares? This is your blog and it should showcase YOUR interests, YOUR games, and YOUR stuff so have at it. If you like it or find enjoyment in something and want to post it, then post away.

  7. I voted doesn't affect because I come here for RPG posts, but in reality it's probably enhance (slightly) because who can have too much beauty?

Unless you are bi, I wouldn't worry about the equal opportunity aspect. Holding one thing up as exemplary does not imply disdain to other unmentioned things. I think most mature people accept that different things do it for different people.

And really, attempting to satisfy everyone is a fool's errand.

  8. The beauty of the internet is that people don't have to go places they don't want. People can even "opt out" on a day by day basis.

  9. Objectively:
This is your blog, which you write for fun. The moment people start paying for your product is the moment you should worry about what they think, and not before.

    Subjectively:
I am a goth girl and I approve. Hell, I can probably hook you up with some pictures, assuming you like the Victorian look.

  11. Thanks for the comments everyone!

I realize now that I was being too passive. You're right. It is my blog!

Goth Girl continues - because I like it. (And I was just joking about the Goth Guy, so that will NOT be a feature).

    :)

  14. As said by others, it's your blog. Do what you want.

"If you try to please everyone, you'll please no one."

  15. I voted "enhanced" because I would not have even found your blog in the vast sea of gaming blogs if I hadn't noticed that post on the blog feed of some other blog. Blog.

So, I go from zero enjoyment to greater than zero enjoyment. I was serious when I posted on that entry that you had gained a new reader.

    Blog.

    1. Thanks again faoladh! It's really hard to get noticed with all the blogs out there. And now I have found your blog too, which looks very entertaining. Appreciate the words of encouragement. :)

  16. Nicco - cool video. I wasn't aware of these guys.

Sniderman - thanks, but these days I only rely on fortune cookies for lottery numbers. :)

  17. Voltaire's a lot of fun, though his shows are mostly NSFW (seriously so... but awesome fun). He does do family-safe shows, and their fun to watch because he keeps catching himself. "... no, I can't tell that story, there are kids here" (though he does have a children's album, Spooky Songs for Creepy Kids, my daughter loves it).

I was going to suggest him as your Sexy Goth Guy, actually. I'm almost entirely straight and I think he's got a lot of sex appeal (and I've seen a picture from the 80s where he's actually pretty at the same time, and it works if you like the look).

I recommend him for the music, it's fun. The pictures are harder to come by, though.

  18. Keith - thanks for the suggestion, but I am exclusively a lover of the ladies so I think I will stick with just the Sexy Goth Girl feature. But that Voltaire guy does certainly have style and class. Thanks for the comments. :)

  19. Too late to vote? ;)

I say it stays. Pure RPG blogs are fine, but you need a break every so often. Both in terms of reading and posting.

After all, even Dragon Magazine had comics.
